WERLITSCH EX VERO 1
WERLITSCH EX VERO 1
We have been begging for a small allocation of the stunning wines of Werlitsch for years and a tiny amount is finally in Ontario for the first time. While some low-intervention wines are wild and freaky (& we love 'em), these are complex, super fine and ageable - though tasting freakin' delicious right now. Extremely limited quantities.
These are single bottles of Ex Vero I.
Ex Vero I
‘Ex Vero’ means out of the truth in Latin, a phrasing which big time characterizes Werlitsch winemakers’ Ewald & Brigitte Tscheppe’s holistic approach to winemaking. The grapes used to make Ex Vero I— a blend of Chardonnay & Sauvignon Blanc— are grown at the lowest point of a hillside slope where soils are dense & clay-based, giving the wine a petrol & gunpowder-driven, low-top Docs-sporting minerality, a badass metallic edge to an otherwise soft-hearted and enveloping wine. Aged for two years in old oak, rich warm caramel notes call to mind a handful of Werther’s Originals scattered across the bottom of your cool aunt’s well-worn Vuitton purse. On the palate, we’ve got candied citrus with a wink of grapefruit skin bitterness, clear, creamy pear, & sprawling acidity. Don’t be afraid to stash one in the cellar! Ages as well as a timeless leather handbag.
Ewald & Brigitte Tscheppe make some of the finest white & skin contact wines we’ve had, like ever.
