A SUNDAY IN AUGUST CABERNET MERLOT

A SUNDAY IN AUGUST CABERNET MERLOT

from $60.00

Finally! It’s here! Our much coveted, once-a-year allocation of BC darling’s A Sunday in August. For those new to these bright and magical wines, welcome. Sunday is a small batch BC winery by Michael Schindler. Mike wanted to make beautiful, natural and adventurous wines he wanted to drink. Working with organic, biodynamic and sustainable local farms in BC and renting cellar space with Canadian biodynamic legend Anne Sperling, Mike has done just that. We first discovered these wines by the glass at some of our favourite Vancouver resaturants and have been seeking them out ever since. This is the Cab-Merlot.

A Sunday in , Cabernet Sauvignon & Merlot, Okanagan Valley, BC - Ah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot! The unofficial grapes of all of our parents, who can’t stop won’t stop ordering them without consulting the wine list first whenever we take them out for dinner. Well, hang on to your hats, Boomers— we take your Bordeaux blend, and we raise you this British Columbian hellcat. Merlot & Cab Sauv grapes undergo two weeks of semi-carbonic maceration before undergoing a 5 month élevage in neutral oak; this year’s Merlot-Cab Sauv has a little extra Merlot thrown in for good measure, making it extra crushable & ripe. This wine is a perfect bridge between the traditional and the contemporary— we’ve all tasted Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot a thousand times, and this wine pays homage to their classicism and timelessness with its razor-sharp expression of varietal character. Cab Sauv is as brawny and unsentimental as ever, an overstuffed leather armchair in a room called ‘the library’ with a stag’s head up on the wall, while Merlot does its usual A++ job of combatting Cab Sauv’s kind of mean vibe with its soft, plummy fruit and luscious texture. But ASIA’s reinterpretation of this classique blend is undeniably natty, volatile and meant to be drunk young; drinking it is sort of like looking at a picture of your parents in the seventies and wondering how these two hot badasses grew up to be the same nerds who constantly text you asking for iPad tech support, and will never, as long as they live, be able to wrap their heads around the concept of an emoji.
