‘Les Gruches’, Chenin Blanc Les Gruches is a higher-end cuvée of Chenin Blanc vinified from fruit grown on two clay/limestone-soiled plots in Saumur, one with vines over eighty years old, which bears an extremely low annual yield. This is a dense & expressive wine with an innate quality of wisdom & easy sophistication; drinking a glass of it is like sitting down with yourself as a very old person, and your old person self shares all of these incredibly relevant life lessons with you and also looks SO hot for being so old, but as soon as you stand up you forget the entire thing ever happened. Speaking of age, this wine is definitely down to cellar for up to five years after release, softening & filling out as it matures. In youth, it reminds us of a leaner Vouvray, lithe as opposed to ample, like Jerry Hall in a white silk pantsuit. Fruit is sexy & austere- Asian pear & honeydew melon countered by heaps of glimmering glistening minerals. Ginger chew, honey apricot, squeeze of lemon, caramel drizzle. Taut core with a ruthless acidity that makes it perfect for pairing with the lushest lobster in cream sauce kind of vibe. Drinking a glass makes you feel like a way classier and slinkier version of yourself instantaneously; you just want to sashay around the house and call everyone “dahhhling,” even your cat.

‘Les Landes’, Cabernet Franc From fifty year old Cabernet Franc vines grown on dense flint & red clay soils comes this sultry & rustic red, charmingly old-fashioned like a well-executed 50’s greaser-inspired fit on an extremely sexy vintage clothing enthusiast. Cabernet Franc is so incredibly versatile that sometimes you can’t help but feel like it’s having something of an identity crisis, in this case it drinks like Cab Franc-does-Cab Sauv, firm yet juicy, weighty medium body veering into full, rugged tannic structure from eighteen months of aging in oak & all the resultant flavour characteristics that come with the territory: cigar box! Vintage leather chair! Flowering tobacco leaf, cedar chest, woodshop, crystal tumbler, giant old-fashioned library kitted out in those Beauty and the Beast-style sliding ladders, books bound exclusively in leather & cloth. Even at its heaviest, Cab Franc is always more of a red fruit kinda guy, in this case we’ve got macerated cherry and rich, decadent plum butter. The texture is incredibly buttery on the palate, which is rare for a red, but now that we’ve experienced it we’d like to see it more often! Rustic chic, sprinkle of paprika, dense & complex, like having a torrid affair with an extremely hot farmer (and/or sexy vintage clothing enthusiast.)  

‘Greta Carbo’ First things first, let’s all take a moment out of our days to sit quietly & reflect on this wine’s drily witty moniker, which we only wish the real Greta Garbo had lived to see & appreciate. Having a wine named after you is an even greater honour than winning an Academy Award, especially if it is a pun at the same time. Just like Garbo, Carbo is a legend, the revered sort of cult wine that unites this world’s hypebeasts, wine snobs, & regular cool people with good taste with its undeniable excellence. The ‘Carbo’ is a nod to carbonic maceration, the mode of vinification used to give this single parcel Cab Franc its dazzingly bright & extracted red fruit flavours, like an amplified, saturated version of Cab Franc with the volume turned all the way up. Silky, glossy texture, with a whimsical depth on the palate. Cab Franc’s signature greenness shows up to the party, like rolling around in a field of dewy early morning grass.
