POPULIS FRESH DUO
POPULIS FRESH DUO
This is the fresh & crispy Populis 2020 duo featuring old vine Sauvignon Blanc (like 70 + year old!) & a poppy chillable red blend we can’t get enough of. As always, organic farming, no additions & low intervention delicious wines. Available as a duo or six pack, deals when you bundle. :)
Populis, 100% Sauvignon Blanc, Mendocino County, CA While winemakers Shaunt Oungoulian & Diego Roig, make wines for Les Lunes by farming older & historic leased vineyards in Napa & Sonoma, their Populis project is made using purchased grapes from historic vineyards & multi-generational growers they adore in Mendocino County, located just north of Sonoma. Their production facility is literally located in the basement of Shaunt’s parents’ house, allowing them space free from other wineries’ yeasts / influence as well as space to age multiple vintages if they deem it necessary before release. This single-varietal old-vines Sauvignon Blanc is without a doubt the most chilled out Sauvy B you’ve ever tasted, vinified from grapes planted in the late 1940s and some of the very oldest SB vines in California! Omg wow they are so old & wise! They have moved on from their early-twenties need to be all loud & elderflower passionfruit green pepper showboaty in your face. The green pepper has softened into a fluttering grassiness, and fruit flavs are lightly tropical: guava, key lime & lemon balm. Satiny mouthfeel, Central Loire-esque, the smell of Dove soap on a loved one’s skin. Make a wish on a dandelion & pair with acoustic guitar strum on a late spring afternoon.
Populis, ‘Reversée’, Zinfandel & Carignan & Pinot Noir, Mendocino County, CA A high-toned, crazy fresh, chillable red, with each grape variety undergoing separate fermentation in flextank to preserve maximum freshness. The Reversée is made using a technique the winemakers call the 'reverse saignée’ (sounds fancy!)— they take a third of the grapes, press them to rosé juice and add that back to the tank in order to decrease the concentration and make a lighter, snappier wine. The result is a nonchalant party red, equally happy with or without food, juicy & pretty, with an amiable nose of Swedish berry giving way to a palate of hazy pulpy blood orange soda. A smear of sour cherry jam, baskets of strawberries & raspberries, no need to overcomplicate things, it’s a fresh fruity red and that is OKAY. This is not a wine we need to make up a million weird words about, it’s a wine that we’re likelier to stop writing about mid-sentence so we can wander over to the fridge & crack open a perfectly cool bottle to drink on the fire escape while watching the wheels go by. Okay yeah, let’s go do that! YUM.
We are thrilled to welcome the tiny production wines of Shaunt & Diego at Les Lunes/ Populis. Living & balanced California beauties.
