Koppitsch Perspektive Rot, Blaufrankisch + St. Laurent, Burgenland, Austria Yet another stylish & distinctive red from our beloved winemaking husband & wife duo Alexander & Maria Koppitsch. Grown on the finest limestone soils the Koppitsches Burgenland vineyards have to offer, this blend of 70% Blaufrankisch & 30% Saint Laurent is aged in on gross lees in barrique for 2 years, giving us lots of woodsy “smoking a pipe in an oxblood leather armchair” vibes and rich texture on the palate, like sucking on a square of the fanciest, most intense dark chocolate. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves— this red still drinks light & fresh, its earthy/smoky character balanced by a pure & precise hit of limestone minerality. Based on the deeper, richer fruit and structure of Blaufrankisch with a bright acid lift and flavours of sour cherry, Red Hots candy & bright tomato leaf thanks to a sploosh of Saint Laurent. The palate brings us handfuls of perfectly ripe berries, angelic potpourri you couldn’t help but impulse buy at Liberty London, and some soy/umami goodness, like a verdant, vibrant forest after a rainstorm.
